Learning Disabilities and College Planning
11% of high school students have a reported learning disability. Learning disabilities make college planning even more complicated than it already is. However, there are colleges and universities that have been and will continue to be places where students with learning disabilities can and do succeed.
There are a few colleges where the majority of students have learning disabilities:
Lynn University in Florida and Curry College in Massachusetts. Landmark College in Vermont is exclusively for students with learning disabilities and has one of the best programs available. Even some of the most competitive schools like Brown and Stanford have programs that has worked well for students with learning disabilities.
Much of the information on learning disabilities that is available to help families with college planning is confusing. Sometimes it is not even accurate. Selecting an appropriate college based on what you read or what a college website reports can be a mistake. It usually will not help you find schools that meet the needs of your particular student. Good college planning is essential.

She also helps students with the college search to find schools that will offer the best opportunities for a successful experience. Susie can get you started on the right path. It will change a reluctant learner into a confident college student.
"Allison has always struggled in school because of learning disabilities. Working with you to improve her test scores and assisting us with the college search made such a difference. You helped her feel like she could be successful in college. Her freshman year is going well and finding a school with the support services she needed has really helped. Thanks for all of your time with college applications. P.S. We could not have managed without your patience and college counseling."
